Nuclear Medicine Diagnosis and Therapy Using Radiopharmaceuticals

The Research and Clinical Department of Nuclear Medicine Diagnosis and Therapy, with inpatient beds for open-source radiopharmaceutical* treatment, is a comprehensive division that includes a diagnostic unit (two gamma cameras, equipment for in vitro radioimmunoassays, and a portable gamma counter for intraoperative studies), as well as an inpatient unit for radioiodine therapy of thyroid cancer, treatment of bone metastases, and neuroendocrine tumors.

The department is technically equipped for whole-body diagnostic scanning and has a full set of equipment for preparing radiopharmaceuticals used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

• Radiopharmaceuticals are special medications that contain a small amount of radioactive material. In medicine, they are used for two main purposes: diagnosis (the drug is introduced into the body, accumulates in a specific organ or tissue, and special equipment allows physicians to "see" how that organ is functioning and whether there is a tumor or other changes) and treatment (the radioactive substance acts directly on tumor cells, destroying them while minimally affecting healthy tissue).

Conditions the department specializes in

• Thyroid cancer (papillary, follicular, mixed), neuroendocrine tumor — medullary carcinoma.
• Treatment of bone metastases of various origins. Diagnostic examinations (bones, kidneys, lymph nodes, thyroid gland), diagnostic monitoring.
