The Gynecologic Oncology research department is one of the Institute's leading clinical and research divisions, combining treatment, research, and educational activity.
We have developed surgical approaches using organ-sparing treatment methods that allow women to return to a full life.
Even in advanced-stage cervical cancer, we use special chemotherapy methods that, in more than half of cases, make a full surgical procedure possible. For treating tumors of the external genitalia, we use neoadjuvant chemotherapy and cryodestruction (freezing tumor cells), achieving an 80–90% five-year survival rate in early-stage disease — results on par with the best clinics in the world.
We have developed techniques for combined procedures that make surgery possible even in cases previously considered inoperable. We also use various organ-sparing treatment methods for patients with early-stage disease; combined surgical approaches involving resection of the vagina, urethra, and perineum have been developed and are used in cases previously considered inoperable.
Our gynecologic oncology staff continuously improve their qualifications, complete internships, and exchange experience abroad; they are full members of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS), the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Ukrainian Association of Gynecologic Oncologists.
