National Cancer Institute Surgeons Visit Tübingen University Hospital

Fourteen specialists from the National Cancer Institute visited Universitätsklinikum Tübingen — one of Germany's leading university medical centers — to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of surgical oncology.

The exchange was made possible through grant support from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Tübingen University Hospital is the only surgical university hospital in Germany receiving funding under this program to support Ukrainian hospitals, underscoring its leadership role and solidarity with the Ukrainian medical community.

Visit Program

Ukrainian specialists worked alongside the hospital's surgical team under the guidance of Professor Mihaljevic and Dr. Daniel Hartmann. The program included:

• discussions on modern approaches to treating oncological diseases;
• an exchange of experience on surgical techniques and interdisciplinary care models;
• participation in operating-room work;
• observation of clinical teams;
• a tour of the training laboratory for advancing surgical skills.

Colleagues' Assessment

German colleagues noted the high professionalism, resilience, and dedication of the Ukrainian physicians, who provide daily care to patients under wartime conditions — amid missile strikes, power and water outages, and limited patient access to medical facilities due to security risks.

Both sides expressed hope that this visit would mark the beginning of long-term cooperation aimed at strengthening cancer care in Ukraine, developing human capital, and implementing best European practices in clinical work.
