Brigatinib for Lung Cancer Treatment: Updated Procedure for Obtaining the Drug

The procedure for obtaining the innovative drug brigatinib for patients with non-small cell lung cancer has been updated.

The drug was procured by the state enterprise Medical Procurement of Ukraine through managed access agreements on behalf of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. It is manufactured by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.

About the Drug

Brigatinib is a modern, highly effective antitumor drug used to treat adult patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors carry an ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) gene rearrangement.

Who Can Receive the Drug

To receive the drug, patients must meet the following criteria:

• a confirmed diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer that is not amenable to radical treatment (surgery or chemoradiotherapy);
• completion of the necessary examinations and diagnostic tests;
• indications for ALK-inhibitor therapy confirmed by an oncologist or multidisciplinary team;
• absence of contraindications;
• willingness to undergo regular monitoring, including physician visits, CT and/or MRI scans, and other necessary examinations.

What You Need to Do

1. Obtain an electronic or paper referral from your attending physician for a consultation with a surgical oncologist.
2. Schedule an appointment, based on your primary tumor, with one of the surgical oncologists at the National Cancer Institute's Department of Lung and Mediastinal Tumors.
3. Attend your appointment at the scheduled time with all available medical documentation. The patient's presence is required.

The drug is prescribed and supplied in accordance with the Methodological Guidelines for Planning and Calculating the Need for Specific Medicines for the Treatment of Oncology and Oncohematology Patients, approved by Order No. 289 of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated February 20, 2025.
