EUCanScreen: Synergies for the Health of Europe

Our Institute is involved in the EUCanScreen project, where one of the key areas of focus is building synergies — that is, close collaboration with other EU-funded projects to strengthen the effectiveness of cancer screening campaigns and the development of the healthcare system in Europe.

Why does this matter?

• Exchanging knowledge, methods, resources, and experience between screening initiatives strengthens the impact of individual programs.
• Joint actions help avoid duplication of effort and create integrated solutions that work at every level — national and European.

Specific areas of EUCanScreen collaboration (WP10 and WP11):

• WP10 – Modeling and Health Technology Assessment (HTA): Developing and refining screening models, which makes it possible to analyze effectiveness, costs, and health impact across different countries and scenarios.
• WP11 – Capacity-Building: Conducting educational activities: leadership training, physician certification, colonoscopy audits, training in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and screening for cervical, breast, and lung cancer (low-dose CT).

Why is this important?

• By developing professional competencies across different countries, we improve the quality of screening.
• HTA models make it possible to optimize resources, assess the cost of procedures, and plan for the financial sustainability of screening programs.
• Collaboration with other initiatives helps spread practices and standards that work across different countries, including our own.

As EUCanScreen partners, we:

• actively participate in training initiatives (WP11),
• share our experience in conducting practical sessions and training,
• are involved in strategic planning discussions (HTA and modeling).

This is also a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate that Ukraine is not merely a recipient, but an active participant in European progress in cancer screening.
