Great news – Ilya has completed his treatment and returned home!

|

Recently, we were very pleased to discharge from the Pediatric Oncology Department of the National Cancer Institute an incredible boy – 16-year-old Ilya, who successfully completed a complex treatment and returned home!

Last November, Ilya was diagnosed with a serious illness – Ewing’s sarcoma of the left fibula. Immediately began treatment, complex and exhausting, which required incredible strength of mind, endurance and determination.

During this time, Ilya went through:

  • 8 blocks of chemotherapy, which tamed the disease step by step;
  • a complex surgical intervention performed by the head of the department , Hryhoriy Klymniuk;
  • autologous bone marrow transplantation, which was performed by the attending physician Svitlana Boyko along with chemotherapy.

This treatment required daily hard work and constant interaction of both the medical team and Ilya and his family.

We are sincerely glad that Ilya is now at home, and that he will undergo a period of recovery, observation and, most importantly, return to normal life. And also to his cherished dream! Ilya loves music and wants to become a guitarist. On St. Nicholas Day, the boy received an electric guitar as a gift. This became possible thanks to the efforts of the institute’s chaplain, Pavlo Sokolovskyi. So now Ilya has the time and energy to learn to play it masterfully.
Ilya, you are a true example of courage. We believe in you and wish you health, joy and great achievements!
